Growing Healthy Alaskans for Over 60 Years
Welcome to APG
Jennifer Austin, CPNP
This happy family has packed their bags, the dogs, a cat, and stack of coloring books in order to put Texas in their wake. Jennifer's husband had always dreamed of living in Alaska and being high school sweethearts, his dreams became her's and 4,000 miles later, dreams are coming true.
Jennifer attended the University of Texas at El Paso where she first obtained her Nursing Degree in 2010. After 3 years of working as a Nurse, she went back to school while serving as a nurse in the Newborn & Pediatric Intensive Care Units of the surrounding hospitals. In 2015, Jennifer obtained her Masters Degree and her Nurse Practitioner License.
Jennifer is fluent in Spanish and has counseled many new mothers in breastfeeding for the clinics she has worked for. She prides herself with her love for babies and working with new families as they grow together. Outgoing and energetic, Jennifer looks forward to beginning work with APG, but first the adventure to the North.
What was the coolest thing you saw on your way up? I look forward to telling you all about it.
What do you like to do in your free time (Other than being Mom)? Before I entered the medical world I studied music. I play the flute and piccolo. I am honored to have performed with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and was featured as a youth guest artist. I also won a Young Artist Competition scholarship which led to my studies at the Canadian conservatory Le Domaine Forget in Quebec. Although I did not choose to pursue music as a career it continues to be a great passion of mine.
What is your most memorable childhood illness? Ear infections and chicken pox.
What do you enjoy most about being a Medical Provider? Forming relationships with my patients and their families. My patients are my heart! I am honored to be a valued resource to parents and enjoy guiding them through their child's healthy growth, illnesses and other challenges.
Do you have any one piece of advice you would give to families? You are the expert of your own child. Many people (family, friends, strangers, etc) will give you advice on the best way to care for or raise your child. At the end of the day he/she is your child and you are the best person to make decisions about what is right for your child and your family. My goal as a provider is to provide you with education and support to best achieve your family's goals.
**Jennifer's schedule is open for scheduling appointments starting in mid-August 2016 **
