Influenza Health Guidelines
Here are a few things you and your family can do to protect yourselves and others against the H1N1 flu virus, the seasonal flu and other illnesses:
Wash your hands. Encourage children to wash hands frequently during the day. This is the best way to prevent the spread of illnesses.
Cover your sneeze/cough. Cough or sneeze into a sleeve or tissue, then wash your hands!
If you feel sick, stay home! If you experience flu like symptoms, remain at home to avoid exposing others.

What is BMI?
BMI, or Body Mass Index, is calculated from a child’s weight and height. It is a reliable indicator of body fat for most children and teens. Your child’s pediatrician will assess BMI at each well visit beginning at age 2. After BMI is calculated, it is plotted on a growth chart to obtain a percentage value. Children and adolescents with a BMI over 85% are considered overweight. A BMI over 95% is considered obese. Overweight and obese children are at risk for other health problems. Please talk to your pediatrician if you are concerned about your child’s Body Mass Index.

Immunizations
If your child only needs immunizations, we provide that service Monday – Friday from 8:30 am to 11:00 am without an appointment. If your child has an appointment in the afternoon for some other reason, immunizations can be given at that time. If you are unable to come in during the morning hours, you must make arrangements with your child’s nurse.
Pediatric Night Call
After office hours, your calls are referred to the Pediatric Night Call service. An experienced pediatric nurse will assess the situation and suggest what to do next. If a visit to the doctor is the appropriate step, the nurse will direct you according to your pediatrician’s instructions. If the best direction of care for your child is not clear, the pediatrician on call will be contacted to insure optimum care is always provided. A full report will be sent to your pediatrician the very next day.
Calling for Prescriptions
If you call our office to get your child’s prescription medications refilled, please leave the following information on your nurse’s voice mail: your full name, your child’s full name (please spell last names), your telephone number, the medication needed and the pharmacy. Some drugs need to be hand carried to the pharmacy. Refills requested Monday – Friday will be ready the next day. If requested on a weekend or holiday, it will be ready the next working weekday. Photo ID must be shown when parents pick up these medications. Please plan ahead for your child’s medication refills, especially long-term medications.
